The LED video wall owner's manual. It starts on install day.

Ownership of an LED video wall starts on installation day, not on the day the invoice is paid. Most of the LED wall faults we repair in Bengaluru began there: a frame hung off a partition, a wall fed from a shared socket, no earth, a handover with no paperwork. This is the owner's manual for that day. Read it before the crew arrives, and keep it with your invoice.

Is your site ready? Power, data and wall strength

Three things on your side decide how smoothly installation day goes. We check all three at the free site survey and write them into the quote, but the work is done by your electrician and your landlord, so start early.

Power

An LED wall draws far more during a full-white moment than on normal video, so the line is sized for the peak. A 10 × 6 ft indoor P2.5 wall averages about 1 kW but can touch 3.9 kW. What we ask your electrician for:

• A circuit of its own: 16 A for an indoor wall up to roughly 8 × 6 ft, a 20 A single-phase line at 10 × 6 ft, and several circuits for anything bigger and for every outdoor wall.
• An RCCB protecting that circuit, and a real earth that has been tested. The neutral is not an earth.
• A stabiliser or online UPS if your building's voltage swings.

Laying the supply cable from your distribution board up to the wall position is your electrician's job; we give them the specification. Data

The controller needs a LAN point or Wi-Fi so PxlOS can reach it. That is how you change content from your phone, and how we spot a failed part before you do. Put the controller somewhere ventilated and reachable, not in a sealed cupboard. If the laptop or camera feeding the wall sits more than 15 metres away, we run a fibre or CAT6 extender instead of a long HDMI cable.

Wall strength

Count on 3 to 4 kg per sq ft for an indoor wall with its frame. At 10 × 6 ft, that is 200 to 240 kg hanging on the anchors. Outdoor walls are heavier and carry wind load too. The wall material decides how the frame is fixed. For an outdoor wall, the sun direction, the structure and the permission are checked at the same visit; the outdoor LED wall site survey lists what we measure.

What happens on installation day

By the time the crew arrives, most of the work is already done. The steel frame has been cut and powder-coated to your survey measurements, and the cabinets have been assembled and burn-in tested at our Bengaluru facility, with modules from a single batch. The crew is ours, never subcontracted. On site, the work runs in this order; a shop-sized wall often finishes in a day, and larger walls spread it over up to three.

1. Frame up. Anchors go in, and the frame is set true with a laser line, level to a couple of millimetres from end to end. Get this wrong by 5 mm and every dark scene shows a seam for as long as you own the wall.
2. Cabinets hung. Bottom row first, then upward, each cabinet locked to its neighbours. Power and data run cabinet to cabinet inside the wall, dressed and labelled.
3. Controller commissioned. The sending card learns the wall's exact resolution, every receiving card is told where it sits, and a test pattern confirms the map before any content appears.
4. Calibration. Brightness matched across cabinets, colour temperature set for your room, and a PxlOS schedule so an indoor wall runs at 30 to 50% brightness.
5. PxlOS and training. The wall is registered, your first content is scheduled, and whoever will run it gets about 20 minutes of training on their phone.

Small walls are quick. At Açaí Theory in Indiranagar, the storefront wall went up and was commissioned in a single day, while the shop was closed. A Bengaluru corporate office had its cafeteria wall installed in one working day; the corporate office case study shows how.

The handover checklist: what to collect before you sign

Handover is the one moment when everyone who built the wall is standing in front of it. Use it.

• The commissioning report. It records the commissioning date, and your 2-year warranty runs from that date. It should show the wall passing its test pattern and calibration. Take your own photo of a full-white screen as well; it is your baseline.
• The warranty certificate. Tied to your GST invoice. It lists the wall size, pitch, IP rating, cabinet type, module model and batch code, controller and receiving card models, PxlOS player ID, start and expiry dates, and the exclusions in plain words.
• Spare modules from the same batch. 5% of the wall, in a labelled box. Same batch means a replacement never shows as a colour patch. Count them, keep them dry, and never lend them out.
• Logins in your name. PxlOS access for at least two people on your team, not just the installer, and the controller model and network written down.
• Calibration you have seen. Look at full white and a mid-grey from where customers stand, with room lights on and off. A tile that looks warmer or dimmer is fixed now, not later.
• Drawings on file. The mounting drawing and electrical specification, which your landlord, your auditor or a future tenant may ask for.

How long will your LED wall last?

The LEDs are rarely what ends a wall's working life. The parts around them wear first. Here is how the parts hold up on the Bengaluru walls we have fitted and serviced:

Three habits stretch those numbers: run indoor walls at 30 to 50% brightness, keep the supply clean, and book a yearly service.
