On a match night the screen is the product. People stand three deep at the bar, sit in the far booths and lean in from the smoking deck, and every one of them wants to read the score. Size the wall wrong and the back of the room loses the game. Pick the wrong pitch and the front row sees dots. Here is how to get both right in a Bengaluru bar.

How big should a sports bar LED wall be?

Start with a tape measure, not the wall. Measure from where the screen will hang to your farthest seat that pays: the last high table, the back booth, the door to the deck. That one number sets the size.

Say you run a long bar off 100 Feet Road, 15 m from the back wall to the door. The table says 12 × 8 ft, the usual answer for the long, narrow bungalow conversions found across Indiranagar and Koramangala.

Height matters as much as width

In a cricket broadcast the score sits along the bottom of the frame. Hang the wall so its bottom edge clears the heads of people standing at the bar, or the score is the first thing the crowd blocks. Check ceiling height, beams and AC ducts at the survey. A low false ceiling caps the height of the wall, and with it how far back the picture can be read.

Keep the shape close to the broadcast. A 16 × 9 ft wall is exactly 16:9, and 10 × 6 ft is close. A wall much wider than the picture spends money on black bars, unless you plan to run two matches side by side.

Which pixel pitch does a sports bar need?

Pitch is decided by the closest viewer, not the farthest. The rule of thumb: the closest comfortable distance in metres is about the pitch in millimetres, so P2.5 looks smooth from 2.5 m.

• Indoor P2.5 at ₹6,150 per sq ft + GST suits most bars, where the first stools sit 2.5 to 3 m from the screen.
• P1.8 at ₹8,250 per sq ft + GST only for a narrow lounge where guests sit within 2 m.
• A coarser pitch makes sense only if nobody sits within 4 m, such as a wall high above a stage. Ask us to price it for your room.

Going finer than the room needs adds nothing for the back tables: the broadcast arrives in HD and is scaled to the wall either way. Spend the difference on size. Our pixel pitch explainer goes deeper.

Refresh rate: how the wall handles fast motion

A cricket ball crosses the frame in a blink. Two numbers affect how that looks. The broadcast frame rate is fixed by the channel. The wall’s refresh rate is how many times per second the LEDs are driven, set by the driver chips in the modules. At 3,840 Hz the picture is steady to the eye and to a phone camera. At 1,920 Hz or below, every video a guest shoots of your wall shows rolling bands, and on a match night your guests’ videos are free advertising.

Ask about grey scale too. When the wall is dimmed for a late crowd, cheap panels lose shadow detail and a floodlit outfield turns into a flat green sheet. 14-bit grey scale holds it. Our explainer on LED wall refresh rate has the detail.

Inputs, switching and latency

A bar wall is only as good as what feeds it. Typical sources are one or two commercial DTH set-top boxes, a streaming device for matches that are only on OTT, and a laptop for quiz nights or DJ visuals. All of them go into a video processor with two to four HDMI inputs that sits between the sources and the wall.

Presets are set during commissioning: one match full screen; two side by side when an IPL game and a Premier League fixture overlap; a main match with a second in a small window. Staff switch presets from a button panel behind the bar or from a phone, not from a laptop in the back office. Every input is labelled at handover.

Scaling and switching add a frame or two of delay. Nobody sees that in the picture, but everyone hears it, which brings us to sound.

Sound is a separate system

An LED wall has no speakers. Audio comes from the same set-top box that feeds the picture, through an HDMI audio extractor or the processor’s audio output, into your bar amplifier or DSP. Because the picture is held back a frame or two by processing, the roar arrives just before the shot. A 40 to 80 ms audio delay, set once while watching a live feed, puts them back together. We set it on every bar installation.

Budget speakers and amplification separately from the wall. If the bar already has a good system, the only addition is the delay.

How bright should a sports bar wall be?

Our indoor panels reach up to 600 nits, and a bar rarely needs all of it. With the lights on at 7 pm a wall sits comfortably around half. After 10 pm most rooms settle lower still, so the screen belongs to the room instead of lighting it. PxlOS, our cloud CMS, dims the wall on an hourly schedule. Running low also cuts heat in the modules, the main thing that shortens a wall’s life.

Terraces and rooftops are different. A screen watched in afternoon sun needs outdoor IP65 panels, up to 4,500 nits, dimmed hard after dark. Power, spills and service

A 10 × 6 ft indoor wall averages about 1.1 kW on normal content but peaks near 3.9 kW on a full-white frame, so give it a dedicated 20 A line and put it on your generator changeover. Keep the bottom edge above splash height and the processor in a closed, ventilated cabinet. Most bar walls sit flush against a feature wall, so choose front-service cabinets.
