LED video wall, projector or LCD video wall? The honest answer.
Seams, room light, size, lifespan and cost, compared for boardrooms, lobbies and showrooms. Including the rooms where an LCD or a projector is the better buy.
Three technologies can fill an indoor wall with a picture: an LED video wall, an LCD video wall and a projector. Each is the right answer somewhere, and each is an expensive mistake in the wrong room. Three plain facts decide it: how much light falls on the wall, how close the nearest person sits, and how many hours a day the screen runs.
The short version
- A lit room, a screen running most of the day, viewers 2.5 m or more away: an LED video wall.
- Operators under 1.5 m away reading small text all day, or a screen under about 4 sq m: an LCD.
- A room you can darken, used a few hours a week, on a tight budget: a projector.
- A 10 × 6 ft indoor P2.5 LED wall is ₹4,37,500 + GST with the controller, installed. That now costs less than a 3 × 3 grid of 55-inch LCD panels.
- Compare what each costs over seven years, not on the invoice. Repairs are where they part ways.

Why ambient light decides more than budget
A projector does not make light on the wall. It throws light at a screen, and the screen reflects it back, along with every other light in the room. Switch on the office lights or open the blinds, and the dark parts of the picture turn grey. Brand colours go pastel. The presenter squints at slides everyone else is squinting at too.
LCD panels and LED walls make their own light, so both hold up. Commercial LCD panels sit around 500 to 700 nits. PixelSpot indoor LED walls reach up to 600 nits, and most run at 30 to 50 per cent, which leaves room for a sunny afternoon. The numbers by room are in our LED wall brightness chart.
Seams: can you live with the grid?
An LCD video wall is a grid of 46 to 55-inch panels, and every panel has a frame. Even the thinnest bezels leave lines about a millimetre wide between screens, and they cut straight across a face, a logo or a product shot. On a data dashboard, nobody minds. On a brand wall behind reception, visitors notice at once, and on camera the grid looks worse than in person.
An LED wall is one surface. Cabinets butt together, and when the frame behind them is levelled to within a couple of millimetres, the joins disappear at normal viewing distance. That flatness is an installation skill, not a spec-sheet number, which is why we fabricate every frame at our Bengaluru facility to the measurements taken at the site survey.

When a projector is the right answer
Some rooms don't need an LED wall, and it is better to hear that before you spend lakhs. A projector makes sense for:
- A training room used a few hours a week, with blinds that close.
- A dark screening room or home theatre, where a projector's weakness never shows.
- A rented hall or heritage building where nothing can be fixed to the wall.
- A very tight budget, where a big image matters more than a bright one.
What a projector cannot do is run ten hours a day in a lit room and still look good in year three. Lamps need replacing, filters need cleaning, and a speaker who walks across the beam casts a shadow on their own slides. When an LCD video wall still wins
- Control rooms and dashboards, where operators sit under 1.5 m from the screen reading small text all shift. A Full HD LCD panel is sharp at that distance. Fine-pitch P1.2 LED matches it, at ₹14,650 per sq ft + GST.
- Small screens. Under about 4 sq m, a single 86 to 98-inch panel gives the same area with no seams at all.
- Touch. Touch overlays for LCD are mature. If people will tap the screen, start there.

When an LED video wall earns its price
LED is the right call when the screen is part of how the business looks and it runs all day: a showroom, a hotel or office lobby, a restaurant, a temple hall, an auditorium stage, a studio backdrop. It is also the only one of the three that takes a custom shape, like a pillar, a wide recess or a curve, and the one to choose near a street-facing window. For the smaller screens around it, a TV at the counter or a standee at the door, digital signage in Bengaluru: print, TV or LED matches the medium to the spot.

What each option costs over the years
The invoice is the smallest part of the story. Three things decide the real cost.
Repairs
An LED wall fails small: one module or one power supply, swapped in minutes from spares that came with the wall. When an LCD panel fails, the whole panel goes, and five years on the model may be discontinued, leaving a mismatched tile in the grid.
Lifespan
Plan on 8 to 12 years of daily use from an LED wall before it falls to half brightness. LCD video walls typically give 5 to 7 years before their backlights dim unevenly.
Power
A 10 × 6 ft indoor LED wall averages about 1.1 kW on normal content. An LCD wall of similar size draws about 1.3 to 1.6 kW and puts more heat into the room.

Five questions that settle it for your room
- How bright is the room at 3 pm? Daylight or bright lighting rules out a projector.
- How close is the nearest viewer? Under 1.5 m reading text: LCD or fine-pitch LED. From 2.5 m: P2.5 LED.
- How many hours a day will it run? Beyond a few hours a day, lamps and backlights become running costs.
- Is the space a standard shape? Pillars, recesses and curves are LED territory.
- Will it be filmed? Town halls, launches and video calls favour LED at 3,840 Hz refresh, with no grid lines on camera.
